What is Hydrocortisone Cream?

 

Hydrocortisone Cream is a form of treatment that provides fast, effective relief for itchy, irritated, or inflamed skin. The active ingredient contained in this cream, hydrocortisone, a corticosteroid that will treat several skin conditions such as eczema/dermatitis, psoriasis, heat rash, insect bites and stings, and nappy rash.

 

What is the cause of skin inflammation?

 

Skin inflammation is a result of a trigger and the immune system responds to it. Cells in the immune system respond as a result of a trigger that causes inflammation. The cells can widen the blood vessels which allows for a response to the trigger more easily. This also leads to a number of the symptoms associated with inflammation, such as redness, swelling and heat. Causes of inflammation include an immune system problem, an allergy, or bacterial infection. Heat and photosensitivity can also cause skin inflammation.

 

Who is this cream suitable for?

 

This hydrocortisone cream can be used by adults and children aged 10 and over. For children under the age of 10, do not use without advice from a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist. Do not use if you are allergic to hydrocortisone or any of the other ingredients contained in the cream. You should also not use this cream if your skin condition is caused by an infection. Also, do not use if you have scabies, rosacea, or eczema around the mouth area.

 

 

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use this cream?

 

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should consult their GP for advice before using this hydrocortisone cream. If you become pregnant whilst using the cream, speak to a doctor immediately.

 

How should Hydrocortisone Cream be used?

 

Apply to cream in a thin layer to the affected area of the skin 2-3 times a day. For children, only use for 5-7 days at a time. This cream should not be used on the face, on the genitals, bottom, on broken or infected skin, or any fungal infections.

 

 

Are there any side effects?

 

As with many types of medication, there is a chance of side effects when using. Potential side effects include:
